Pros and cons of Coursera: Grow your career app for iPhone and iPad
Coursera: Grow your career app good for
Id love to see a Apple Pencil notes feature. Other than that, great!
I think the app works great; smooth interface, nice format, terrific that I can watch course videos on my commute.
Love it. Easy to use and keeps me up to date on all my courses.
I use this app on mobile and laptop so I may watch a lecture and use the ArcGIS software at the same time. Only problem is my AMD display driver crashes occasionally and the Chrome web browser needs to be restarted.
Amazing experience with the approach and equally amazing content
I enrolled here with a recommend from my advisor, and have been using it for more one year, a lot of university from the world and a lot of lessons, it is very useful and quality, if you want improve yourself you must use that app.
Some bad moments
This app tries to be very smart. It started in Russian because it found a Russian keyboard layout.
But Im German, my main system language and keyboard layout is German, system location is set to Germany and my Russian is unfortunately very weak.
Found no way to change the language and uninstalled. Of course the app, not the Russian keyboard.
BTW I also have English keyboard layout (currently writing this review with it) but this seems not enough to to get English Coursera settings.
The app works very well, well designed and easy to use.
However as a student the fact that you cannot complete all assignments from within the app is extremely frustrating and makes the app entirely pointless if I have to exit to my browser to complete the lecture assignments.
How did coursera not see this Achilles heel?
Good overall app design and functional but absolutely useless to me in this state. Just use the website and save yourself the hassle of switching in and out.
Pennsylvanian university course English for Business and Entrepreneurship is the good example how is good idea becomes a bad product.
A lot of complaining from pupils since the very first day!!!!!
It doesnt work properly. A lot of bugs.
Im totally disappointed
1. Always crushes when you try to open a slideshow (why Im supposed to download an app if I still need a browser?)
2. No opportunity to read provided transcriptions of videos.
Want to give no stars but have to give at least one. Doesnt deserve it.
Assignments do not open in the app, you are forced out to the website. SAFARI IS NOT SUPPORTED, so you better be using chrome or explorer (seriously). There is now two-stage is and their system does not recognize your hardware so if you are on your phone or your iPad, you are directed to provide access to the webcam. Complaining about these issues only got the helpful suggestion of "go buy a webcam."
Coursera is not even aware of their own class requirements. The class Im attempting requires assignments be submitted by a due date for peer review. Customer support tells me that I can submit my assignment anytime and it will not affect my grade. Because if the tech issues my assignment is late and my class standing is in jeopardy. And the final kick us they refuse to refund me.
Shoddy.
The Coursera app would be great if it worked reliably. But even though I have the cellular data option enabled in the apps settings, it frequently fails to connect over LTE, when YouTube and EdX connect without problem.
Also the constant sales pressure to upgrade to paid versions of their courses is obnoxious. They want to maintain the marketing claim that everything is free, but do everything possible to make this inconvenient. For example its no longer possible to browse the video lecture content of most courses without jumping through a lot of hoops.
Finally, when I pay several hundred dollars for a certificate version of a course (as I did for the excellent UW machine learning sequence) I want to be able to access current content at any time rather than only at the artificial fixed startup dates set by Coursera.
Coursera should rethink its go to market approach. They have great content, but Udemy has a much better web site that is far easier to use.
